The crater was photographed April 17, 2019 by HiRISE, a special high resolution camera on board the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO) currently above the planet. The impact of the 5 ft meteor revealed the dark surface of the planet. The final impact produced a fresh crater that researchers estimate is 49 feet to 53 feet (15 to 16 meters) wide.
